Joseph Alpert (born February 1, 1942) is a board-certified American cardiologist in Tucson, Arizona. He is a professor of medicine at the University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center and also serves as the editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Medicine.

Joseph Alpert Career
Alpert became a professor at the University of Massachusetts in 1978, where he also served as section chairman for cardiovascular medicine. At the University of Arizona College of Medicine, he was named the Robert S. and Irene P. Flinn Professor of Medicine and Chair of the Department of Medicine in 1992. In order to work with the college’s dean’s administrative staff, he resigned from this post in 2006.
Alpert is renowned for his work on the Joint European Society of Cardiology-American College of Cardiology Foundation-American Heart Association-World Heart Federation Task Force for the Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction, where he served as co-chair.
In addition to authoring or editing more than 50 books, he has written more than 700 original research articles, reviews, editorials, and clinical reports.
