  • Cluster headache is described as a very intense pain behind your eyes. It is similar to migraine headaches in presentation but occurs behind the eyes.
  • Sinus headache usually occurs as feelings of pain and pressure around your forehead, cheeks, and eyes. It is usually a result of congestion in your nose or sinuses and maybe a sign of a sinus infection.

How to treat headaches at home

Described below are 5 simple techniques you can try at home to relieve feelings of headache:

1. Cold or warm compressHeadache

Just as you may feel numb when you’re out in the cold for a while, cold temperatures can also numb your headaches. It can also help relieve migraine headaches by making your blood vessels narrower. You wouldn’t go wrong with an ice pack.

Heat is better for tension headaches, as they are usually caused by stress. Therefore, the heat helps to relax muscles of the neck and shoulder, relieving the headache. A hot water bottle or towel can be applied to the shoulder and neck.

2. Relaxation techniquesHeadache

Yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises can help relieve certain types of headaches, especially cluster headaches.

Since tension and migraine headaches may be caused by stress, yoga and meditation could help relieve them as they help the body relax.

Drink more water and take fewer beverages as this can prevent headaches. Some beverages like caffeine and alcohol can dehydrate you and cause headaches.

Drink about 2-3 liters of water a day. You may drink 8 to 16-ounce glass of water every two hours when you notice a headache coming.

Although caffeine may help with some types of headaches, when taken in excess, it may lead to dehydration, thereby precipitating headaches.

Asides from alcohol being able to trigger migraines, it also dehydrated you, causing a headache the next day. Therefore, headache is one of the most severe symptoms of a hangover.
