Eugene Braunwald (born August 15, 1929) is a board-certified Austrian-born American cardiologist in Boston, Massachusetts. Braunwald is a pioneer in coronary artery disease research and has made significant advances in understanding and treating heart disease.
He has written numerous scientific publications and edited several prominent cardiology textbooks, such as “Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine” and “Braunwald’s Heart Disease.”

Eugene Braunwald Career
American cardiologist and researcher Eugene Braunwald has made substantial contributions to cardiovascular medicine. Since 1961, he has served as the Hersey Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, where he has been a faculty member.
Dr. Braunwald has authored over 1,300 scholarly publications and edited or co-edited various cardiovascular medicine textbooks during the course of his career. Additionally, he has served as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and on the editorial boards of a number of other medical journals.
Dr. Braunwald has won various honors and medals for his work, including the American Heart Association’s Distinguished Scientist Award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
