Aristada (aripiprazole) is an FDA-approved antipsychotic medication used for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults. It contains aripiprazole lauroxil which belongs to a drug class called antipsychotic drugs.
Aristada has a boxed warning from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as it increases the risk of death in older persons with psychosis related to dementia.

It is used to treat schizophrenia in adults.
How Aristada Is Given
Aristada is given as an injection into a muscle. This injection will be given to you by a healthcare provider. Depending on your condition, Aristada injections are given every 4 to 8 weeks. Your doctor may alter your dose plan from time to time.
If you’ve never had aripiprazole before, your doctor may advise you to take it by mouth (as a tablet or a liquid) for a few days before getting your first injection. After your first injection, you may need to take oral aripiprazole for up to 3 weeks. Pay close attention to your doctor’s dosing instructions.
Follow your doctor’s instructions for taking your antipsychotic drugs. Take the time to read the directions that come with each drug. Do not alter your drug doses or regimen without consulting your doctor.
Drink a lot of water. When taking Aristada, it’s easy to become dehydrated. While you are on this medication, your doctor will need to monitor your progress.
Side Effects
